Presentation
Each page of this site is divided the same way. Consistency in the presentation of the material will help you navigate through the pages. At the very top, you can see Chapter pages (Chapitre 12 through Chapitre Épilogue). Choose the chapter you need. Then, you can see Au sommaire (it allows direct access to all the days we need to spend on one particular chapter). Choose the day that you need. By clicking on one of these links (Jour 1 to Jour 8), you will access the work that needs to be done for that day.
Time per unit :
We will spend 8 class times per chapter, the last two of each unit (Jour 7 et Jour 8) are devoted to the chapter test.
Evaluation :
There are vocabulary and grammar quizzes almost daily and a test at the end of the unit.
How to prepare :
You are expected to come to class prepared. It means that work needs to be done prior to coming to class (I. Travail à faire avant d'arriver en classe !), typically the evening before class meets.
You are also provided a check up entry to be done right after class (II. Travail à faire après la classe !) to help you focus on the material covered during class. Language learning requires constant memorization and constant review of material learned. That is the purpose of that section. When we learn the futur or the passé composé, we still need to remember the présentde l'indicatif. Constant practice is the only way to achieve proficiency. This is also the reason for the section entitled 〇 E. Travail de révision.
Time spent in class :
1. In class, you will first answer the questions in 〇 A. Questions. Then, you will ask each other questions of your own (one or two). You need to think of those questions prior to coming to class. This is what 〇 B. Votre ou vos questions à un(e) camarade de classe is all about. The vocabulary in 〇 C. Vocabulaire utile à apprendre et à utiliser pour répondre aux questions des parties A et B is to be used in the answers. Time spent in class on these two parts (A and B) is approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Using the vocabulary of Part C in your answers will help you learn it and perform well on the vocabulary quizzes that will take place on Jour 2 and Jour 3. The site provides more occasions to use extra vocabulary for Parts A and B during the other four days of the unit (Jour 3 through Jour 6). That vocabulary is linked to the content of the chapter but does not need to be memorized for either a quiz or the chapter test of that unit. Each page comes with a program called Alexandria developped by Princeton University. By double-cliking on a word, you will instantly have access to a window that will give you its meanings. Make sure you retain the meaning that makes most sense in the context of the sentence in which it appears.
2.
There will be classtime spent on grammar to answer questions that you will have on the new structures presented in each chapter. Having done the work in D. Travail de préparation is key to understand better each new point as we go through them in class. Remember, there are exercises to be done in the textbook, workbook and Quizlets. Doing them when you are supposed to will increase your understanding hence your production skills. Note that you have access to answer keys at the back of your workbook. Never think that by simply copying the answer, you will retain the material. You will not! However, do your exercises, think about your answers, check your answers by comparing them with the answers provided at the back of the workbook, and correct your mistakes if you need to. Only by doing this work patiently and thoroughly will you make progress.
3. Spending just 10 minutes after class (or that very evening) reviewing what has been done in class that day will work wonders. This is the purpose of the section entitled
II. Travail à faire après la classe ! It will help you access your long term memory.
Organization :
If you look attentively, you will notice a
circle "〇" in front of all major sections of every page. Print each day's workload the day before we have class and as you do your work, just mark the circle when you are done with that section. That is an easy way for you to remember if you have done your work properly. It also allows you to break your work in sections and take a break between each section.
Now familiarize yourselves with the site and do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.
